Ian was referred to Good Work through Insight Counselling Services, and was actively job searching and registered with a number of recruitment agencies.

Ian had attended several interviews but unfortunately had not secured employment.

Ian is highly experienced in managing quality systems in chemical, pharmaceutical and food manufacturing and had successfully reached a management position. However, Ian however felt that the main reason for not being successful in getting the jobs he was applying for was that he didn’t hold an ISO 9001 qualification.

The disappointment in not being successful at the interview stage affected Ian’s confidence, and felt that he needed support around interview skills, too. Rosemary, Ian’s Work and Enterprise Coach, worked with him to develop his interview skills, and Ian completed a mock interview with constructive feedback given to help in future interviews.

It became clear to Ian and Rosemary that, by achieving the ISO 9001 Quality Management qualification, there would be far more vacancies that Ian would be qualified to apply for.

Rosemary went on to secure financial support through Good Work for Ian to complete the qualification, which opened up many more opportunities and gave him the confidence to apply for more jobs.

As Ian’s confidence improved, this spurred him on to undertake more qualifications and financed several courses himself to improve his future job prospects. He also worked with a website designer to create his own consultancy website, which would enable him to promote his services as a consultant as another career option.

With significantly improved confidence and three new qualifications on his CV, Ian successfully secured employment in mid-October and is now Quality Manager for two sites. Ian said that he believes the support and encouragement given by Rosemary and Good Work has undoubtedly had a positive impact on him securing employment.
