Jane’s story

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Jane was referred to Good Work by Barnsley Recovery and Wellbeing College. She was off work sick at the time and began working with her employment specialist, Neil, to explore her options.

“Confidence was a big problem for me. I was really insecure and didn’t have any trust in employment. The Good Work programme gave me the confidence to make a change for the better, and to ask for support.”

Having worked in education for a long time, Jane felt that this was her only option, but by working with Neil began to consider other options based on her skills and strengths. When an opportunity came up that interested her, Jane realised that she needed to take that leap of faith.

Centre of Excellence

The Good Work service is now recognised as a Centre of Excellence in IPS supported employment practice across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw by the Centre for Mental Health.

We’re the second provider to be awarded this in Yorkshire and the North East, and proud to be championing, delivering and helping lead the way with IPS supported employment practice.

“This service provides first-class caring, creative and responsive support for people seeking work. It’s both highly professional and adaptable to individuals’ needs; all aspects of finding a good match between clients and employers are effectively demonstrated. We highly recommend South Yorkshire Housing Association as an IPS provider.”

Workshops are back

The Good Work team have enjoyed being able to meet customers face-to-face again, holding workshops and attending careers events.

Workshops have been delivered on sectors including retail, health and social care and transport, logistics and warehousing. The team shared local job vacancies, application tips, provided interview practice, arranged a creche for attendees with children and listened to employer talks from each sector.

The team also proudly worked in partnership with Flourish Enterprises in Doncaster to hold a One Stop Employment Support Shop, attended the Bassetlaw Fit To Work workshop, as well as many brilliant Careers Fairs across South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North East Derbyshire.

The Customer Walk and Wellbeing sessions continue to be popular and are now led by our wonderful peer ambassadors. Weekly digital skills workshops have also been held and expertly led by another of our peer ambassadors.
